Last min. Christmas order

  I got an email this past Wed. from Alex. Alex saw my work at the imadeit for the holidays show in Bakery square and wanted to buy a few pieces as Christmas gifts but the person who the gifts were for was with Alex. So Alex took one of my cards and placed an order with DSH Woodworks.

  Alex and I emailed a few times to work out the details because Alex wanted the pieces for Christmas and they would have to be shipped. Being that each piece at DSH Woodworks is handmade one at a time it was going to be close. I worked out how long shipping would take and worked backwords from there to see if I could even fill Alex's order. I figured the latest I could ship them out to get there before Christmas would be Monday, so that gave me four days to make the three pieces Alex wannted.

  Time to make sawdust!!!!

  After some long hours in the shop(I love doing that : )) I got the three pieces done and they are packed and ready to ship tomorrow.

  Here are the pieces Alex ordered..... Bike 1, Bike 2 and a hanging lantern. They turned out great and I hope Alex enjoys giving them for Christmas.

Last min. orders are stressful, especially when they are being placed to give as gifts, not only gifts but CHRISTMAS gifts the week before Christmas. BUT last min. orders show you what you are made of. It shows you how much you actually can work, how creative with your time you can be, it helps you find short cuts that you might not have figured out before, it takes away the excuse of "I don't have time".  This order was VERY fun to complete!!! I learned alot, not only about my craft but about myself as well.

Antler plaques

 This order came from a co-worker, yes I have a day job, thats how I pay the bills....lol. He ordered three antler mount plaques. He even had a pattern for me to use. These plaques could be used for any type of award, antler mounts, etc...

  The plaques are $25 ea. They can be stained any color you choose and if there is a different shape you would like please put that in your custom order.

Celtic Cross

  I met a woman at the imadeit for the holidays show at Bakery Square. She wanted a Celtic Cross, she came to my table just as someone else was walking away with the last one I had at the show. No worries tho because here at DSH Woodworks we take orders as well as custom orders. She placed an order and a week later I sent it out. I hope she enjoys her cross as much as I enjoyed making it.

DSH Woodworks in Carmel, IN

  I got a call a couple weeks ago from a woman(Danielle) in Carmel, IN who found me by doing a search online. She placed an order for two guitar cutouts. She is making a box for her nephew and wanted to put a guitar on each side of the box. She said she looked everywhere for guitars but could not find exactly what she was looking for, until she did a search and found exactly what she was looking for here at DSH Woodworks. We talked about what type of guitar she would like, size, etc... She chose the Les Paul guitars, unfinished because she is going to paint them to make them match the box they are going on.

  I made the guitars that weekend and shipped them out to her early in the week. Well she got them on Friday and couldn't be happier, which makes me happy. I can't wait to see her final project!!! I will post photos of  her finished project when I get them from her. For now here are the guitars I made for her. Each guitar is about 18inches long and 1/4inch thick.

  We aim to please here at DSH Woodworks. As I have said before if there is something you are looking for but don't see it on the site don't let that stop you from calling or emailing me, I am sure that I can make what you are looking for. Custom orders are always fun to do and when the customer is happy with their piece it makes all the hard work worth it.

Old School Tool Box

This piece was made for a friend who wanted an old fashion looking tool box to put baby books in for her new addition to her family. I hope it brings them many years of joy. I had a great time making it.

The box is 3ft long, 1ft wide and almost 2ft high. It is made of popluar and staind golden pecan, which is a natrual looking stain.

NEVER FORGET!!!!

Never forget......9/11

  Ten years ago today the events of Sept. 11, 2001 changed the world and it is something that we should never forget. Remember the people who died, the rescue workers who died trying to save other peoples' lives, our military who even as I write this are still at war.....never forget one moment of that day!!! The events of that day changed each and every one of our lives forever.

REMEMBER!!! REBUILD!!!! RISE!!!

  I woke up this past Sat. morning knowing that I wanted to make something in honor of that day. I went onto Steve Good's website and found exactly what I was looking for. Steve is a scroll saw artist who makes patterns and puts them on the web for everyone to use. Steve is a great artist and a great person for putting his patterns out for all to use.

  Again I give Steve Good thanks and credit for this amazing pattern. I cut the pattern out of quarter inch thick poplar and red oak. The back pieces are stained rosewood, the towers are red oak, the fire fighters are natural stain and the words are painted black.  NEVER FORGET!!

My Fiance' and I have fallen in love with NYC. We go there at least once a year. We just love the people, the energy, food, sites, sounds, smells, just everything about the city. NYC is where we took our first vacation together, its where this past May we got engaged over looking the Statue of Liberty, on that same trip was also when we got osoma. Needless to say NYC has a special place in our hearts.

  When we go we stay in Jersey City which is just across the river from NYC, actually the hotel we stay at is right at the entrance of the Holland Tunnel. We take the path from Jersey City into the city and the stop that we come up into the city is at Ground Zero. This past May when we were there was when we got osoma. We popped out of the path into the crazy media from all over the world at Ground Zero, military was everywhere you looked.  One of the first things we did was find a street vendor selling American flags, we found one pretty quickly and we both put the flags in our backpacks to show our support and to show that we are proud Americans. We were interviewed a couple of times and had our photo taken more times that we know. One question I got asked more than once was "Are you afraid?" My answer was the same every time.....No I am not one bit scared, look around you, there is military everywhere and you can not be scared, if you are scared they win. You have to live your life to show them that they did not win.

  Every time we are at Ground Zero families are there leaving flowers, letters, photos, etc.. at the now construction site. These people will never forget.

While cutting this piece, thinking about the events of 9/11 and knowing that we are going to NYC in a few weeks I have decided that I am going to place this piece at Ground Zero, it doesn't matter if its on a fence, on the ground, if it only lasts one day. If one person is reminded to never forget it was well worth it.
